Thalassa Taverna sits right on the caldera edge in Oia, where lunch stretches into sunset over the Aegean. Blue doors, white walls, the whole sea.

Three generations have grilled the day's catch here and pressed oil from the same grove below the path. Nothing fancy: lemon, oregano, charcoal, time.

  • Booked for two, ended up as four, and they did not blink. Started with the Baklava and it set the standard for everything after. If you are anywhere near Santorini, go out of your way for it.

  • Went on a wet Monday expecting it to be half empty. It was not. The Grilled Whole Sea Bream was the best thing on a table where nothing was bad. The sort of place you hope stays exactly as it is.

  • A colleague recommended it three times before I finally listened. I did not expect much from the Greek Salad and was quietly put in my place. Took a while for the mains to arrive, though it was a full room.
