Elaia Modern

Athens Riviera · Fine Dining

New Greek, ancient roots

A fine-dining room on the Athens Riviera, where olive oil is poured tableside like liquid gold.

Philosophy

Vegetables, fish, herbs and the olive - the oldest table in the world, plated as if for the first time.

A minimal dish composed on a dark slate plate

The Mediterranean, as refined art

Elaia Modern plates the Mediterranean diet as refined art on the Athens Riviera - vegetables, fish, herbs and the olive, treated with the calm of marble and the patience of a grove.

The room is quiet, the plates are few, and every table begins the same way: a single-estate ελαιόλαδο, poured tableside like liquid gold.

The ritual

The olive oil ritual

Poured tableside, like liquid gold.

Every evening opens with a single-estate ελαιόλαδο from hundred-year groves - poured at the table, tasted on warm bread, returning in every course down to dessert.

The varietal

Peppery and green almond, with a slow heat at the back of the throat.

The rooms

Reviews

  • A friend visiting from abroad asked for somewhere local rather than famous. We came in for something else entirely and left talking about the Slow Lamb, Vine Leaf. Service slowed noticeably once every table was full.

  • Went twice in one week, once for work and once because I wanted to. The Tomato, Three Ways is priced like a starter and eats like a main. Booked the same table for a fortnight's time before we had left.

  • Rain, no umbrella, and the first door we tried. Lucky. Nothing on the table beat the Olive Oil Cake, though the rest of it tried. Worth the trip across Athens, and I do not say that lightly.
